Tied to an evidence-based approach for patient selection, the Battery for Health Improvement™ 2 (BHI™ 2) test helps reveal the crucial information that can lead to positive outcomes and something some patients never thought they’d see: an improved quality of life.

Overview

BHI 2 offers a concise, coordinated, yet comprehensive assessment of the biopsychosocial issues most relevant in evaluating patients with  injuries in only 30–45 minutes. Its results are clearly presented and provide health care professionals with the information they need to  design treatment plans that fully address both mind and body. Simply put, patients can lead fuller lives once their doctor has determined the underlying contributors to their pain.

The BHI 2 test can be used by psychologists, psychiatrists, anesthesiologists, neurologists, physical therapists, surgeons, rehabilitation specialists, and nurses to help:

• Measure the relationship among physical, environmental, and psychological factors on the patient's treatment
• Support evaluations for cases involving orthopedic, occupational, and auto injuries; workers compensation; and long-term disabilities
• Evaluate the patient's emotional readiness for surgery
• Facilitate physician-psychologist communication and communication within a multidisciplinary treatment team
• Assess the patient's readiness for vocational training or job placement
• Evaluate treatment effectiveness and monitor clinical outcomes

• Requiring only 30-45 minutes to administer, the BHI 2 test helps measure numerous outcomes, including reduction of pain, improvement in function, and satisfaction with care.
• The BHI 2 test includes 31 Critical Items that draw attention to a wide variety of risk factors including:

• The Scale Summary section highlights the patient's significant scores and summarises noteworthy findings.
• The Pain Complaints section uses a standardised 1–10 pain scale, which assesses multiple dimensions of the pain experience, including level of pain in 10 body areas, pain tolerance, pain range, and peak pain.
• The Somatic Complaints section, available in the Enhanced Interpretive Report, helps guide the clinician to explore medical and psychological explanations for physical symptoms.
• The Diagnostic Probabilities section, available in the Enhanced Interpretive Report, provides a percentage that indicates how closely the patient's pain complaints match the pain complaints of patients with the same diagnosis.
• Within each scale, content areas help distinguish possible reasons for the patient's psychological or psychosocial problems. Presented in graphic format, this additional delineation helps further support the development of suitable treatment plans.
• Both interpretive reports include a Patient Summary, written in lay person's language, to help the clinician explain test results to the patient.

  The BHI 2 test addresses physical, psychological, and social concerns while considering the complex nature of pain and the biopsychosocial phenomenon. The result, along with the patient norms, allows for an extensive patient understanding not available with other singular tests.
• Critical Items that reveal risk factors
  If it’s a potential risk factor, the BHI 2 test’s Critical Items will draw attention to it. The 31 Critical Items red flag such risks as pain fixation, perceived disability, sleep disorders, suicidal ideation and
  violent tendencies.
• Content areas: What’s behind a patient’s pain?
  Within each scale, the test’s content areas help distinguish the specific reasons for a patient’s psychological or psychosocial problems. These 40 areas are presented as graphs, providing
  additional delineation to aid in developing the right treatment plan.
• Scales: Bi-directional scales offer answers on both sides
  Most psychological tests focus on scores above the norm. The BHI 2 also reports scores below the norm to create a more complete picture. For example, the test reports whether a patient perceives
  their family as too helpful, or not helpful enough.

Report Options

Medical Intervention Risk Report: provides a half-page graphical profile that succinctly summarizes patient scores on 5 Psychosocial Risk Factors and 2 Nonadaptive Coping Styles.

Progress Report: enables the clinician to monitor the patient's progress over time.

Profile Report: provides a patient profile that includes a graphical representation of the patient's raw and T scores in comparison to both the patient and community norms.

Basic Interpretive Report: provides a concise interpretation of test results, including a profile graph and scale summary.

Enhanced Interpretive Report: provides a more extensive interpretation of the patient's test results, including in-depth scale category narratives.

On-Screen Administration (OSA)

Your clients can complete this assessment online through Q-global. Alternatively, your client can complete the assessment in paper-pencil format, and their responses can then be data-entered into Q-global for scoring and report generation. On-screen administrations are proctored (supervised) unless specifically indicated.
