Product Details

The ILS assesses the level at which adults are capable of caring for themselves independently. It offers a reliable, valid standardised approach for identifying areas of competence in forensic cases, and for determining the most appropriate living setting for adults who are experiencing a decline in cognitive functioning. The 68 items differentiate among individuals who are not capable of understanding issues, who understand issues but need help in resolving them, and those who can independently address issues.

The ILS is composed of five scales that assess the following areas: Memory and Orientation; Managing Money; Managing Home and Transportation; Health and Safety; and, Social Adjustment. Scores on two factors (Information/ Performance and Comprehension) may be derived from responses to items across the five scales.

Appropriate for patients 65 years and older; 17 years and older with dementia, psychiatric diagnoses, intellectual disability or traumatic brain injury.
